My Weekend In San Francisco

01/06/12- 01/08/12:

My very first time in San Francisco. Yeah, I know. Not only that, but my first time on a plane in 13 years! My cousin Esther invited me to tag along with her to visit her college friend, Minhaz. I jumped at the chance.

Day 1

Mad-dash from work, to home, to LAX. Window Seat

After getting picked up from SFO we went to a local bar with friends, grubbed, and had some hoppy local beer (9%/abv yay). Went to Minhaz's place and played the extreme version of kings cup. This version was all drinking, no pouring into a cup (our stomachs were the booze container). Naturally, we passed out.

Day 2

Had lunch at Boudin, which over looked the pier-ish area. I wanted to get the classic, soup in a bread bowl, but changed my mind and went for the (salty) linguine & clams the last minute. Regrets! We then decided to go to this old timey arcade, which was in our vicinity at Fisherman's Wharf. List of things inside: Creepy- singing & dancing dolls, fortune telling grandmas & gipsies, Vintage- 25¢ peep slide shows, player pianos and "palm readers". After we had our fill of Arcade's circus-y past, we headed for the grand ole Bridge.

Day 3

Esther and I struggled for a few minutes trying to figure out SF's automatic public transport ticket kiosk... "Why won't it let us enter the exact amount. We don't need $20 worth!" We managed to resolve the situation when we figured out that there was an 5¢ addition and subtraction button. "Inefficient". Minor hold backs.

We were off, heading north into the depths of the city. We mostly walked through downtown; Esther and I had the same idea: Food, then China town.

Esther and I walked back down into the city and headed back to station to catch our flight.

Things to consider the next time I am in SF:

Downtown: Ride the trolly!

China Town: Buy more cute shit (I've got my eyes on you, umbrella!)

The Golden Gate Bridge: Look out for the man with the fedora, because he's going to snatch yo chillrin.

The past: Coachella 2011

I totally forgot I had pictures from Coachella. I discovered these this week, from when I had stored them on my work computer, to make space in my camera. Let see what I remember about these...

A groups of friends and I have been staying at a condo in Palm Springs for the last couple of years, for Coachella. This is one of the rooms, which i always try to claim the night stand for my 70's yellow, hard-case suitcase. Unpacked and ready to go...with my 50 pairs of sneakers.

The living room

The 1st morning: I tried to toast a bagel, and this happened. Smoke alarm went off, and i fled the scene of the crime. This bagel mishap was repeated the next morning (but not not by me.) The toaster clearly had a attitude problem.

The walk: arduous, hot, dusty, sweaty, etc.

Hahaha, so this is why I don't smile with my teeth. Note to self: You look like a vampire.

EE: Korean (self proclaimed "total art" group). Super cute mini asians with high energy level. Found out they were the first band to play the second day. It was a bit annoying to get up because it took away from me sleeping in, but it was worth it.

Here is my cousin Esther, in my collection of random vintage stuffs. The Chiffon hat and the mink stole was given to me by a friend of mine, Lori, whom I had met through Jcrew #520 (?). She has passed down some great furs, cashmere and trinkets to me, from when she working in vintage stores. The chiffon scarf and necklace were finds from one on my weekend visits to my sister's, in Santa Barbara. I got a hold of the suitcase at a local Goodwill or Salvation Army, I'm not sure which, but both have a good selection of suitcases... this one was brand new.

The gang and I went into a antique store on State street whilst in SB. The trinkets there were amazing! The kind of store that I can get lost in for hours, looking at every little "lost in time" menagerie. My favorite kind of store.

The best part is that I received early birthday gifts from my sis and Minsun.

Labor day week was spent with my sis, Minsun and Gateley in Santa Barbara. We made a delicious brunch on Sunday...

Last week, Minsun and I continued our terrarium building session. We started at various toys stores to find minatures. Unfortunately we didn't find what we were looking for. So, without any luck, so we decided to continue to Home Depot. Oh Home depot I love you. You can spend a lot of time there without realizing, and over zealously purchasing plants... but its all worth it!

I just came back from a trip to Sequoia with Matt. I slept on the way back home, and currently unable to sleep, so I decided to post some of the pictures I had taken over the weekend early.

The drive there wasn't too bad with the air conditioning, but the temperature outside exceeded 100. It took about 4 hours to Reach Camp Nelson, where we were staying. (Not too shabby)

Matt and I visited a couple of Goodwill's the other day, and came out with some great pieces. The best part of thrift stores is that, you never know what you'll find. I love to look through all the goodies that the past can leave behind. I would even say that the quality and thought behind clothes from a few decades ago, exceed our now globally made clothing. (um... Why is Marc Jacobs made in China, and why doesn't he ever have lining in his jackets? Standards?(That sounded so blasphemous! XOXO Marc!))

Thrift stores, I find, will generally offer more unique, quality pieces than most of the things out in the market. The market can be so deceitful in some ways. (Buyers from, ie: nordstrom, urban outfitters, macys, and forever 21 are buying from the same people. We just will never know because the labels are different.)

OK, I'll just stop now, before someone comes and shoots me.

In this post: Men's shaped boxy shirt, an intricate sweater knit cardigan, and an "H" Bag. I also purchased a Saks Fifth Ave Trench, a Jcrew red/black checked wool skirt, and a fab dark wood end table, which i'll post next time around.

These white ankle boots have become one of my favorites. They were there for all three days of the musical festivities. I know i should probably include pictures of what i wore, but unfortunately I didn't take any! I was looking through my pictures, and laughed, because for one, i hardly took any photos, two, Of the pictures i did take, half are nonsense and blurry. Guess i was having too much fun. I do have to say this in defense: this year i separated from the group quite a few times, and to be honest, i don't trust a stranger, (especially at coachella) with my camera.

The location of The Secret Meadow is just beyond the Hermit Falls trail. I do have to admit, this trail is DANGEROUS. The trail breaks off in certain areas, and you have to climb up a steep hill to get to this location. BUT...the benefit, from my experience, is that no one passed us coming or going. So it was nice. Chantry Flats has been pretty packed over the weekends, and finding some solitude was welcomed.

The day started off just right. The wind has been out of control recently, but it wasn't too bad yesterday. The perfect weather: chilly, a bit breezy, and warm in the sun.

I met Christine at our old home/family, also known as JCrew. We said hello to the few that still work there, then proceeded to shop for a good pumpkin... at one colorado. (For those of you that do not know one colorado, it takes up a block of Old Town Pasadena.) Yes, you could say that we are pumpkin thieves, or even bandits, whichever you like..

This is our second annual pumpkin-napping, and i can say that the tradition is alive.

This is what we made our first year. His name is "Cat-o-lantern":

Anddddd i'm back. I haven't been posting anything recently because I couldn't find my camera mount for my tripod. So instead, i decided to go off fashion/clothes, and have a post about food.

The other day i made this treat for myself:

Lemon Chicken, garlic veggies with herb butter, and rice.

I marinated the chicken for a few hours in olive oil, lots of garlic, and salt & pepper (which i believe is the most simple and delicious marinade for chicken and steak. ).

My new favorite DRANK: Raspberry beer

My friend Matt and I bought this beer at a small local grocery store the other day. We've never heard about it before and decided to try it out. This beer is fabulous. FAB. It's basically hard raspberry soda. I do have to warn you that it is sweet, but not over bearing, probably really good with champange (did i just say that? beer AND champagne together as friends???).

Also...my friend Asley told me about raspberry beer floats. Which actually sounds like it would be a good pairing. Haven't had it yet, but someday soon! YUM
